Living in Charleston, South Carolina

I can’t believe it’s June 2013.  One year ago my husband and I were planning our daughter Maria’s High School graduation party along with packing boxes, and getting ready for our big out of state move, all at the same time.

The end of this month will mark the first year since we made the move to Charleston, South Carolina, and it still feels SURREAL!  Even though it was a shock to our family and friends whom were upset, we still manage to come up to NY to visit as often as we can.  And of course, our family and my sister Liz comes down whenever they can.

Charleston is a very charming city, as many people have described.  It has an array of historical sites, plantations, and beautiful beaches with glorious sunsets.  Its history goes back to the 17 century, when it evolved into a rich English city.

Charleston is also known for its beautiful surrounding Islands, known as Seabrook, Kiawah, Daniel, Sullivans and Isle of Palms, just to mention a few.  And, with that comes the Southern charm, the glorious Southern foods, and of course, the weather being beautiful every day, its no wonder why my husband decided to move here to South Carolina.

Where did the year go?  So many wonderful events have gone by this past year.  Shortly after we moved, our second grandchild Valentina was born.  What a joy!

Both of our younger daughters started new schools last August, and then the holidays started to sweep by.  First Thanksgiving here with family and friends, followed by Christmas in Charleston and in New York.

Holiday event in Marion Square, Charleston with Aunt Liz, me and my girls.

Then flew back to NY for the Baptism of Valentina in March.  It was wonderful.
And, through it all, many friends and family members started coming down to see for themselves how lovely Charleston really is.

I still can’t believe how fast the months are flying by…

A few weeks ago, our daughter Annalisa along with our grand kids came down for a long visit, enjoying the beaches, the pool and some site-seeing, and we managed to do it all the best we could with two little ones.  It wasn’t easy – but a lot of fun!

And, with Maria finishing her first year at college, and our Lizzy finished her sophomore year in High School, made me realize how quickly the year flew by!

I have to tell you that this year marks the 35th annual Piccolo Spoletto Festival here in Charleston, and it was our first time experiencing this amazing event!

A marvelous festival with over 700 events in 17 days, including numerous concerts and performances in dance, theatre, visual arts, with events planned for children and families, of which half are offered at free-admission, this was truly exciting to experience.  Its no wonder why people from all over the world come to visit Charleston.

As usual, the boys got lost somewhere in the park…. camera shy….

So glad summer is here.  I get to spend quality time with my girls!

In the meantime, look out for more summer recipes to come!  Have a great day everyone!

Thanks for stopping by!!

  1. An interesting discussion is definitely worth comment.
There's no doubt that that you ought to write more on this subject, it may
not be a taboo subject but typically people don't discuss such issues.
    To the next! Kind regards!!

  3. Anna and Liz!

I am SO THRILLED that you stopped by my blog to say 'hey'! I simply love Charleston too and I don't know if you know this or not, but my husband and I moved to South Carolina in 1996, so this will be our summer to celebrate 17 wonderful, beautiful, delicious, awesome years in the Palmetto State. We moved from Iowa for my husband to teach at Clemson and for me to teach USC (friendly family rivalry). We live on our dream acreage with horses in Abbeville (west of Columbia and north of Augusta, GA). I LOVE to come to the spring home and garden events during my university's spring break and we go to Hilton Head every Thanksgiving. Today, June 19th our daughter married her SC high school sweetheart and had her reception outdoors on our acreage, but it was 105 degrees, unlike the mild spring that we are having here in the Upstate this year at 85 degrees!

I am so thrilled that you enjoy your new home in SC. I hope that you fall in love with it as much as we have. As I said on Facebook just this week with a sunset posted from Beaufort, after returning from 2 weeks in Hawaii, there is literally no sunset in Hawaii as beautiful as those that we enjoy in this state . . . seriously. When everyone in Hawaii asked us, "Where is home?" and we reply, "South Carolina", the response was always "NICE!!!!" In my FB post I said that we are so fortunate to be able to come home from vacation to such a beautiful place.

I hope that you stop by more in the years to come!

Happy SC summer and more good times!
    Cheers and salute'
