Shrimp Boil with Spicy Sauce

Shrimp boil is shrimp that you shell right at the table and then dunk each one into a buttery sauce or if you prefer a kick, dunk them into a spicy butter sauce.  It's so much fun!

There's nothing to it.  Just add some seasonings to the water before the shrimp goes in.  I think the best way to serve boil shrimp, is to accompany with your favorite dipping sauce or with lemon wedges, a cold beer or white wine and you have one adventurous meal.  I decided to pair this boil shrimp with a spicy butter sauce that was totally addicting.

Shrimp is in season now, and we love eating shrimp throughout the summer. You can find large and even jumbo shrimp at your local fish market. Shrimp boil happens to be the fastest and the most fun way to eat them.  It's a nice change, especially when we are tired of grilling meats on the barbecue.  Just serve a side salad to go with it and you're done!

Shrimp Boil with Spicy Sauce
  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • 2 garlic cloves-smashed
  • 4 tablespoons Old Bay Seasoning
  • 1 tsp. sea salt
  • 2 to 3 pounds large shrimp, in their shells
  • 2 sticks salted butter
  • 2 tsp. lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper
  • 3 tsp. Worcestershire sauce

In a large pot filled with water.  Bring water to boil. Add vinegar, garlic, Old Bay Seasoning, and salt. Cover and reduce heat to simmer for 5 minutes.

Add the shrimp to the pot. Cover and bring back to boil. Continue to boil until shrimp have turned pink, about 2 to 3 minutes.  Drain.  Transfer shrimp to a large family size bowl or platter.

Spicy Butter Sauce: Melt butter in a small saucepan.  Remove and stir in the Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, and cayenne pepper.  Divide the butter sauce among 4 small bowls.  Serve the shrimp with butter dipping sauce.
