Pear and Roquefort Pizza

Pear and Roquefort Pizza is a thin-crust pizza baked with a crumble of blue cheese, and walnuts, then topped with sliced pears and fresh arugula. It is a delicious combination of salty, sweet, and savory in every bite!  This pear and cheese pizza creates incredible flavors and textures, that you’ll wonder why you haven’t made it before.  It’s SO good, everyone will surely fall in love with these new flavors in a pizza!

It’s finally starting to feel like spring here.  This past week, the weather has been gorgeous!

We decided to dine outdoors with some friends at one of our favorite roof-top restaurants here in Charleston,  the Market Pavilion Hotel on East Bay Street.

We ordered this amazing pizza on the menu, it was called the Pear and Roquefort pizza.

From the very first bite, we knew it was a winner!

The saltiness from melted cheeses combined with the sweet taste of pears and the peppery flavor from the arugula made this pizza taste incredible!

When I taste something that good,  I have to try and figure out the ingredients and duplicate it at home so I can share it with family and friends.

The result? It turned out great!

Better than I expected. Super easy too!

For this recipe…

  • I decided to make a thin crust pizza. So I used only half of my pizza dough.  And the other half was used to make a second pie with the usual tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese, just for the kids.
  • If you are a newbie here, you may want to check out how to make homemadeย pizza with store-bought pizza dough, then visit: How to Make Pizza.
  • Also, you will need only one pear. I used a Bartlett pear with this recipe. But you may use Bosc pears if you prefer.
  • Either one is fine to use with this recipe because both pears will give a sweet spin to the pizza.

This Pear and Roquefort Pizza is a simple recipe made with a few ingredients scattered on top, baked, and topped with fresh arugula and sliced pears just before it is served.

… and it is AMAZING!

How to make Pear and Roquefort Pizza?

  • Before you start, if you have pizza dough that has been in your refrigerator, it is best to take it out and give it some time (place it on your counter).
  • At least 2 hours allowing it to warm up to room temperature and rise.
  • Then you can gather up the rest of the ingredients and begin.

5. Spread crumbled Roquefort cheese, walnuts, and shredded mozzarella evenly.

8. Bake for 8 to 12 minutes, (depending on your oven) until the crust is golden on the bottom and around the edges and the cheese on top is melted.

Notes and Tips…

  • This is really a grown-up pizza. It’s not the usual pizza kids would enjoy.
  • I used only half of my pizza dough to create a thin crust for this pizza, but if you prefer, you can use the entire pizza dough.
  • Keep in mind, that all ovens vary, and cooking times may be different depending on the oven you use.
  • It’s best to serve this pizza as soon as you top it with freshly sliced pears and crisp peppery arugula.
  • Also, when you top with fresh crisp arugula, the arugula may begin to wilt from the heat of the pizza underneath and that’s ok. The flavors are still amazing!

I never imagined a blue cheese, like Roquefort, would have such an amazing flavor on a pizza – but it did!

The pizza turned out so good, my family loved it! Simple, Easy, and delicious!

Serve it for lunch or dinner.  It won’t disappoint, I promise!

Have a great weekend everyone!

ENJOY!!
